Student Perspective - Buntain School of Nursing

Cortney OsbornWhen I first started nursing school, I felt nervous and excited. I knew that I was called to be a nurse, yet I knew nothing about nursing. I did not even know how to take a blood pressure. Despite my lack of knowledge related to nursing, I decided to pursue it anyway.

On my first day of school, my anxiety instantly diminished.

The professors were intentional about meeting each and every one of the students. They reassured us that they would assist with any difficulties we may have. Not to forget, the other students were just as excited and nervous as I was. I left the classroom on the first day of school feeling confident and ready for the semester. During the semester, classes started to become slightly more challenging. The more challenging classes got, the more support and love I felt. Professors, students, family, and friends encouraged me continuously throughout the weeks.

Now that I am at the end of the semester, I can truly say that nursing school has taught me more than I could have imagined. I learned to take each day one at a time. If I plan too far in advance, my agenda can change. I also learned that although nursing school is difficult, it is completely manageable. By the grace of God, I found time to take care of myself physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Finally, I realize that I could not have endured this semester without having a relationship with God. God consistently reminds me of my purpose and renews my strength and hope.

Nursing school has not been easy. However, nothing in this life will always be easy. With the right support, self-care, and a relationship with God, nursing school can be done. School can even become exciting and extremely rewarding. Nursing is truly amazing.

"Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6
