Summer Missions Recap: Papua New Guinea Team

This summer, Northwest University mission teams are reaching the far corners of the earth to make an impact for Christ. Last month, a group of NU nursing students left for their three-week mission in Papua New Guinea.

The Papua New Guinea mission team served onboard a YWAM medical ship. This allowed them to assist in providing health care for those often deprived of it in remote parts of the country. Team members used their skills to help others and to further the kingdom of Jesus Christ. Their duties ranged from teaching health education to running an eye clinic and working as dental assistants.

Casey Unruh, one of the mission leaders, was already well acquainted with the nation of Papua New Guinea. She had previously worked in the country with YWAM for six years. “I wanted to share the experience with others who have the same passion,” she said. While everyone took away something different from the trip, Casey shared that each team member learned the importance of “incorporating God into every action, whether it’s practicing medicine or just having a conversation with someone.”

For those considering going on a mission trip, Casey’s advice is simple: “Just do it—God calls us to serve, and by serving others, you get a glimpse of God's heart for His people. It will change your life, and someone else’s, for the better.”
