Assistant or Associate Professor of Nursing and Simulation Lead

Position Summary

The Buntain School of Nursing at Northwest University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor and Simulation Lead position to begin in August 2026. The ideal candidate will possess a doctorate in nursing and have a proven track record as an adept teacher of undergraduate students and simulation. A master’s degree in nursing and applicable experience will also be considered. This full-time position involves teaching 24 credits per year and some administrative duties.

Candidates must possess a meaningful commitment to Jesus Christ, the Gospel , and the church. We are seeking someone with a genuine, encouraging, and engaged faith.

Essential Functions

Assistant/Associate Professor

  • Teach courses in the School of Nursing (didactic and clinical).
  • Advise School of Nursing students.
  • Work with the Curriculum and Evaluation Committee and the dean to revise curriculum as needed.
  • Participate in the governance functions of the School of Nursing as assigned.
  • Participate in the governance functions of the university as assigned.
  • Engage in scholarship related to his or her field of study.

Simulation Lead

The Simulation Lead of the Nursing Simulation Lab provides oversight, direction, and support of simulation learning laboratory experiences in direct collaboration with faculty and staff to ensure quality and continuity in the achievement of course student learning outcomes (CSLOs). 

  • Facilitates simulations as assigned.
  • Provide oversight for instructional support in the simulation laboratory for students and faculty to improve competencies and skills in meeting CSLOs through simulation experiences. 
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and revision of simulation experiences. 
  • Conducts evaluations and provides feedback of simulation faculty effectiveness in support of student learning and curriculum outcome requirements. 
  • Oversee integration of necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes, especially in relation to promotion of safe and effective care into simulation learning experiences.  
  • Oversee orientation, training, and ongoing professional development in the use of simulation in nursing education according to international Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards of Best Practice and the Washington State Administrative Codes related to simulation.
  • Lead BSON through successful INASCL endorsement by January 2029.
  • Develop and conduct evaluations related to the effectiveness of simulated learning. 
  • Maintains data regarding student achievement of CSLOs with Nursing Simulation Lab experiences and provides quarterly analysis of the data and recommendations to improve quality and continuity to the dean and clinical leads. 

Collaborate with university departments and programs to build interprofessional simulation learning experiences.

Chair and provide input on the BSON Simulation Committee. 

Maintain and update simulation laboratory to include, but not limited to: 

identifying software; supply and equipment needs; monitoring simulation equipment; and troubleshooting.

Collaborate with the clinical leads and sim technician.

Assist with campus tours and mock simulations that showcase the value of simulated education in nursing. 

Stay current with developments in the field of simulation technology and learning theories. 

Make recommendations to the dean for additional purchases of simulation equipment with BSON Simulation Committee input. 

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The successful candidate:

  • Doctorate in Nursing or related field preferred, not required.
  • Master's degree in nursing and applicable experience considered.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credential preferred. Attainment of CHSE within 12-18 months of assuming the position.
  • Successful candidate(s) must have an active and unencumbered Washington Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility for obtaining a Washington RN license. Washington RN license required prior to start date.
  • Has current clinical experience of at least three years.
  • Has a demonstrated record of successful teaching of nursing skills, concepts, and critical thinking. 
  • Has experience or course work relating to curriculum development, course creation, or designing significant improvements to courses or curricula.
  • Indicates a commitment to helping students achieve overarching nursing program outcomes and learning objectives specific to the courses taught.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with students, faculty, university staff, clinical site personnel and its clients/patients, and the general constituency of the University.
  • Models best instructional practices in the classroom clinical and/or skills lab setting.
  • Continually develops professional skills in aspiring students through coaching, modeling, evaluation, feedback, and direct instruction.
  • Seeks opportunities to increase understanding of cross-cultural nursing.
  • A demonstrated, vibrant evangelical faith compatible with the mission of Northwest University.
  • Willingness to apply a faith-based worldview to course design, instruction, and advising.

Compensation

Dependent on education and experience and based upon the established faculty salary schedule starting at the respective professor rank. ($65,959–$79,993)

The University is also approved by the Board of Education and Superintendent of Public Instruction of the State of Washington to prepare elementary and secondary education teachers and recommend for certification. It is a member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Northwest University's doctoral program in counseling psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).

The University is approved by the Federal and State Governments for student aid programs and for the training of international students. Selected programs of study are approved by a Washington State Approving Agency for enrollment of those eligible for benefits under Title 38 and Title 10, U.S. Code and by Washington State for training in Vocational Rehabilitation. It is listed in the current bulletin, "Accredited Higher Education Institutions," published by the U.S. Office of Education.
