Master of Arts in Ministry Leadership and Theology (HyFlex)

Northwest University is excited to announce the integration of the Master of Arts in Bible and Theology and the Master of Arts in Ministry Leadership into a single, comprehensive program: the Master of Arts in Ministry Leadership and Theology. This newly combined program brings together the strengths of both degrees, offering students a well-rounded education that blends deep theological study with practical leadership training.

By merging these two programs, we provide a more holistic approach to ministry preparation, equipping students with the biblical knowledge, spiritual formation, and leadership skills needed to serve effectively in a variety of ministry contexts. This streamlined curriculum ensures flexibility, accessibility, and academic excellence while maintaining the core values that have made both programs impactful for students and ministry leaders alike.

“I thoroughly enjoyed participating in the MABT program at Northwest University. The program’s flexibility was invaluable, allowing me to choose courses that best suited my unique schedule and interests. As a woman in an often male dominant field of study, it was important that I enroll in a program that affirmed, sharpened and appropriately shaped my academic voice and call. This was undoubtedly the case! Vibrant professors challenged and encouraged me to think meaningfully and critically about the interaction between faith life and theology. I am grateful for this program!”

—Destiny Kennedy, MA in Bible and Theology Graduate

Purpose

The Master of Arts in Bible and Theology (MABT) is a 36-credit degree designed to enable students to articulate the message of the Bible in faithfulness to the entire scope of God’s unfolding story. This is done so that students might live out the way of Jesus in contemporary culture and to promote truly meaningful engagement with the Bible in Christian communities and ministries.

Program Highlights and Structure

The MABT immerses graduate students in an integrated approach to theological graduate education that draws from theology, biblical studies, history, and the pastoral arts, thus enabling the student to engage in theological and spiritual reflection within a vibrant, Christian community.

For a full-time student, this program can take as little as two years. The program has courses scheduled across three annual terms (Fall, Spring, and Summer). Program delivery includes courses meeting for single four-day intensives and others as a set of three Friday/Saturday weekend intensives. In some situations, on-ground students may elect to complete certain courses via an online delivery model. This flexible delivery format is designed to accommodate the diverse needs of our graduate students.
