Hear Directly from a Student

Since I've transitioned from the military, I wanted to grow more, like what is the business world? How do you operate in it? What should I care about? And how do I serve organizations well? And in the military I learned integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. And so how do I take that, what I learned, those kind of those core values and translate that? How do I do that in the business world? And so I thought an MBA will be a great thing just to pursue and understand and learn more and grow more, but also to have that on my resume or, you know, in my background just to find more opportunities, right? To grow in my career, to challenge myself. So that's why I decided to pursue an MBA, to help me in my transition from the military, but also to grow as a person, to just serve the community and organizations that I'm a part of.

I found Northwest University just doing an online search of Christian universities near me and Northwest popped up as I was one of those, and I started to do some research and it really stood out like I was surprised, like, wow, there's a Christian institution and they're offering an MBA program like this is great because I wanted an orientation of my work, like, how does my faith work out in my work, you know? And so I started doing more research and I decided to give Northwest a call. I think I did a search—it was in spring and then I was sitting in class and that fall. So in four or five months.

Just going through calling, saying that I'm interested to the interview, and then getting me set up with a cohort, the group that I was going to go with in the MBA program, and then sitting in the classroom. I wanted to be more immersed. I wanted to come in person, build those relationships. And so that's what stood out to me for Northwest and Northwest offered one day a week, just for a few hours per week. It's just 20 minutes down the road. And just like, yeah, I want to be in class, I'll be more engaged with the content, more engaged with the professors and the students there. It was a great format. It was steady, it was consistent, it was predictable. And so going to class one time a week for that four hours, and then you have class work and you do that over a two year time frame, that just worked. For my schedule, for my family schedule. But you have to acknowledge at the same time it's going to be a sacrifice, right? No matter what no matter what program you choose. But I thought, like, man, this works. It's at night and it's one day a week that my family and I can commit to. We could do this, even though it's going to be some sacrifice for those two years, but it's worth it. And compared to other programs, it's just like, man, you do it all in one year and you have three classes a week and it's full time. There's other programs out there that are completely full time. So they don't expect you to work and like, no, I can't do that.

This program acknowledges that you're working full time and you have a family, right? So I appreciate that that Northwest realizes that, hey, there's a group of people in my situation and it works out for us. Those are one of the main reasons. And then the second thing was just it was a faith-based institution. And so growing my perspective, my orientation toward my work with faith was really appealing to me because going to undergraduate wasn't faith-based, but this was bringing a different perspective that I always wanted. The big thing is community stood out to me, that cohort program where you're in a small group and you're with these people and the professors for a two-year span. And so those relationships to me are super important just to grow and to network. And so the small class sizes, the community aspect really stood out to me and drew me into the program. Because I feel like I learn better in a smaller space instead of with a classroom of over, you know, fifty people taking the same class. And so that community orientation really drove me. And that's one thing that really stood out to me. Someone who's considering and enrolling and in the MBA, just take the first step and see what Northwest has to offer you in your season of life. For me it's been an awesome ride, and I will never forget the experiences, and the people that I've met, and the relationships that I've built. So check it out, see what Northwest can offer you.
