No generation in American history has been sold short as much as Generation Z.

They’ve become the most anxious and depressed generation in American history. Huge numbers of Gen Z are lost. Huge numbers of Gen Z students don’t know Jesus.

But revival and awakening have never depended on the leadership of the lost masses. They’ve always been carried forward on the testimony of passionate followers of Jesus.

All we need to see the Great Awakening is a group of sold-out young people who have decided to put Jesus first in their lives and make Him known to their generation and to the next one.

Where can we find such a group of Jesus-first people—excited about Jesus, well trained in the Scriptures, discipled in the wisdom of 2,000 years of Christian experience, and filled with the Holy Spirit?

I suggest that we start with the only university in America that declares the name of Jesus in its marketing tagline—a college with the soul and mission of a church, a worshiping community in the heart of America’s most secular region, that for 90 years has never stopped putting Jesus first in everything it does.

The next 10 years will be the greatest years it has ever experienced. New leaders will arise. New students will come. New vision will spring up in hearts. But they need your help.

Tonight, every penny that we give will go to scholarships for Northwest University students. It will go to the Opportunity Fund, our general scholarship fund at Northwest.

I pray that God will speak to you tonight about making the biggest gift you’ve ever made.

I want to talk to you about the theme of leaders of the next Great Awakening.

Whether you’re on the right or the left, it’s pretty clear that things are falling apart. There’s so much pain going on in our society. Churches even are dividing over whether they’re going to stand for godliness or whether they’re going to let the world define what morality and common sense is.

Universities across the country are teaching all manner of foolishness as truth and denying the validity of science and data and history and reason itself.

Folks, we need an awakening. It’s time for the church, and it’s time for America as a whole, to wake up.

Here’s the amazing news: students we have at Northwest University right now are going to be the leaders of the next Great Awakening in America.

We’re teaching our students to lead—to be pastors of churches, to be compassionate Christian nurses, to be wise public educators, to be visionary entrepreneurs, to be grounded technologists who don’t forget the why of technology as they pursue the how, to be fathers and mothers grounded in the truth, to be church members who value the community of the saints, to be the safeguards of 20 centuries of Christian tradition and wisdom and practice, and to teach a new generation to value the things that actually exalt a nation.

When you give tonight, you’re making a statement. You’re expressing your belief in God’s love for our country—that He won’t abandon us in our mess and our trouble and our failure, that He has a better future for us, that He loves our country, and that He will redeem us again.

As you give tonight, you’re supporting revival and the expansion of the kingdom of God in the Northwest.

So when the paddles start raising later, raise your paddle early and raise it often.
