You Have a Degree—Now You Want to Make a Difference

If you’ve recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in a non-education field and are now thinking, “I want to teach”—you’re not alone.

Many college grads discover their passion for education after completing their degree. The good news is, you don’t need to go back for another bachelor’s. You can become a teacher quickly, with the right program.

At Northwest University, the Master in Teaching (MIT) program is designed specifically for people like you—those who have a degree, but not in education, and want to earn a teaching license in Washington State while also getting a master’s degree.

Can You Really Become a Teacher with a Non-Education Degree?

Absolutely. If you already have a bachelor’s degree—even in something like psychology, history, biology, or business—you can apply to a Master in Teaching program and earn both your teaching license and a graduate degree in one streamlined pathway.

At Northwest University, students complete their MIT program in just 10 months (or 16 months if you choose to add SPED or ELL endorsement). By this time next year, you could be teaching in your own classroom.

Why Teaching Might Be the Right Next Step

Whether you realized late in college or just after graduation that you want to teach, there are plenty of good reasons to consider this career path:

  • Purpose-Driven Work: Teaching changes lives (including yours)
  • High Job Demand: Schools need passionate, licensed educators
  • Job Stability & Growth: Education offers long-term opportunity
  • Your Degree Still Counts: Subject-area knowledge is an asset
  • You Can Start Quickly: With a fast-track program, you won’t lose momentum

How Northwest University Supports Recent Graduates

Northwest University’s Master in Teaching program is more than just coursework—it’s a launchpad for people entering the profession with energy, heart, and a desire to make an impact.

Here’s what recent graduates love about the NU MIT experience:

Accelerated Timeline

You can finish in as little as 10 months and be ready to teach the following school year.

Evening Classes

Class meet at night so you can work during the day up until you begin student teaching.

Real Classroom Experience

You gain confidence by working in real schools through field placements and student teaching.

Cohort Community

You’ll move through the program with a supportive group of peers—many also starting fresh after college.

Highly Regarded in WA Schools

Northwest University has deep ties with local school districts, which means strong placement opportunities and respected credentials.

Is the Master in Teaching Program Right for You?

Here are a few questions you might be asking:

  • How do I become a teacher after college?
  • Can I teach with a degree that’s not in education?
  • What’s the fastest way to earn a teaching license in Washington?

We’ve designed this pathway to help recent graduates like you step confidently into the classroom—fully licensed, fully prepared, and fully supported.

Take the Next Step Toward Teaching

You’ve already done the hard work of earning your bachelor’s degree. Let us help you turn that into a meaningful career in the classroom.
