Preparing Skilled Professionals With a Heart for Christ.

For 23 years in a row, Gallup has named nursing as the most trusted profession in America. Like Jesus, nurses are compassionate, caring, and committed to the healing and well-being of others. With a heart for Christ, nurses practice the spiritual art and science of healing. At the Buntain School of Nursing, our two-year program blends scientific, clinical, and holistic health studies – enhanced by cross-cultural study abroad experiences – to fully equip students for successful careers as registered nurses.

Did You Know? Northwest University has the highest NCLEX pass rate (95%) of all 4-year public or private universities in Washington.

Why Nursing at NU?

  • Earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) that most employers prefer. Set the strongest foundation for your healthcare career.
  • Engage with faculty who invest their extensive teaching and clinical experience into your success. What sets our faculty apart isn’t just their brains. It’s their hearts.
  • Integrate spiritual growth and learning to prepare for effective community service and ministry in cross-cultural contexts. Our seniors study nursing abroad in Taiwan, Greece, Kenya, or other destinations.
  • Practice clinical skills in high-fidelity clinical simulation with cutting-edge technology and virtual reality integration. Then master those skills in clinical rotations through some of the best hospitals in the Pacific Northwest.

Nursing Jobs Are In High Demand

Nurses are in high demand. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects the job outlook for registered nurses to grow by 6% from 2022 to 2032, faster than the average for all occupations. About 193,100 openings for registered nurses are estimated each year, on average, over the decade.

Nurses with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) experience greater career mobility and flexibility than those with an associate’s degree. A BSN degree offers students a broader base of scientific knowledge that is indispensable, as well as further education in management and leadership; two skills sought after by employers. The critical thinking skills imparted by a BSN translate to improved patient care and safety. The primary purpose of a BSN degree is to prepare students for entry-level nursing practice positions in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, schools, home health care services, and community health centers as registered nurses (RNs).

The BSN degree also grants entry to master’s or doctoral nursing programs, leading to career advancement and career opportunities outside of the traditional nurse practice roles; BSN graduates are positioned for a range of specialized nursing jobs. In addition, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing points out that the unique value of BSN-prepared nurses is recognized by “nurse executives, federal agencies, military decision makers, leading nursing organizations, healthcare foundations, magnet hospitals and minority nurse advocate groups.”
