Prospective and New Students

Step 1: Review our Frequently Asked Questions

Please review our Frequently Asked Questions.

Step 2: Forms

Students Who Have Not Submitted Application for their Educational Benefits through VA:

The VA explains that it may take between 30-45 days to process initial applications. We can not certify your courses until this form has been processed and we receive your Certificate of Eligibility.

The best way to apply for your education benefits is online at the VA website. You can also apply for education benefits by doing any of the following options:

  • Visit your nearest VA Regional Office to apply in person.
  • Call 1-888-GI BILL-1 (888-442-4551) to have the application mailed to you.

Students Who Have Received Notice of Educational Benefits Approval from VA:

Students who have already been approved for Educational Benefits merely need to notify the VA that they are changing where they are receiving their education:

  • Change Your GI Bill School or Program

Step 3: Getting Started at NU

The NU Veteran's Education Benefits form is required for all students wanting to use their VA benefits at NU. This form will be kept in your file and used to get you set up in VA Once. If you have any questions about it, please email veterans@northwestu.edu.

NU Veteran's Education Benefits Form

At this point you have applied to NU, you have been admitted to NU and you have already sent your COE to NU’s certifying official.
