Position Summary
The Area Coordinator for Student Apartments & Housing Coordinator (informally known as an AC) serves as a pivotal member of the Residence Life and Housing Team. The AC provides administrative and relational leadership to foster a Christ-centered living and learning community within the student apartments. This individual serves as the main housing administrator for traditional student housing, as well as for monthly housing units (FIRS, duplexes, houses). This live-in role focuses on student development, community engagement, and housing operational oversight to ensure a supportive and enriching residential experience. A commitment between 2 and 5 years for this position is encouraged to help provide sustainability and effectiveness for the Residence Life team, as well as to allow for growth and advancement opportunities.
Essential Functions
- Serve as a Christian role model, providing mentorship and guidance in personal, spiritual, and academic development.
- Supervise, train, and develop a team of Resident Assistants (RAs), holding them accountable for programming and leadership responsibilities.
- Maintain visibility and availability within the residential community and Student Life Office to foster relationships and provide student support.
- Create and support student apartment programming that promotes holistic student development and aligns with the residence life mission. Support RA’s in programming geared toward commuters.
- Oversee and coordinate the traditional student on-campus housing processes, including session development, move-in and move-outs, fall-to-spring transition, housing selection night, occupancy reports, meal plan details, housing changes, and more. Delegate and collaborate on other processes, including early move-ins, Christmas housing, summer housing, May extended stay, and other housing processes. Be the expert eRezLife professional.
- Maintain accurate housing information and data for living areas through shared documents and eRezLife housing system.
- Lead the monthly housing operations through maintaining an accurate roster, waitlist, extending offers, verifying rent charges and payments, and providing other resources as necessary. Approximately 94 units.
- Facilitate student housing operations, including check-in and check-out processes, bi-annual Health & Safety Checks, regular facility walk-throughs, and other housing processes as necessary.
- Collaborate with Residence Life, Maintenance, and Security teams to uphold a clean, safe, and well-maintained living environment.
- Communicate and enforce the student handbook policies, responding to student conduct incidents and facilitating conflict resolution.
- Conduct judicial meetings and respond to student conduct incidents as assigned.
- Serve as a resource and referral point for students, faculty, staff, and other university stakeholders regarding university housing.
- Participate in on-call rotation every 3-4 weeks, responding to emergencies as needed.
- Engage in departmental meetings, campus-wide events, and prospective student initiatives to support the university's residential experience.
- Serve as a member of the Student Care Team and provide holistic support to students, such as academic intervention, mental health follow-up, and more.
- Participate in facilitating small group discussions with the first-year experience class.
- Serve as essential staff for crisis situations.
- Perform other administrative or work duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skills
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Undergraduate experience in Residence Life; professional Residence Life experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- High level of knowledge and efficiency within Microsoft 365 Suite.
- Ability to learn new systems with ease.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Current FA/CPR/BP/AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
- Experience in crisis management, conflict resolution, and student development.
- Knowledge of student housing operations and community engagement strategies.
Work Environment
- Indoor office setting with occasional outdoor responsibilities in varying weather conditions.
- Evening and weekend work required.
Physical Demands
The functions are usually performed while standing, but may involve some amount of time sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting (max. of 40 lbs.), walking, carrying, reaching, stretching, climbing, perform repetitive motions of the hands or wrists and other movements. The abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking are also required.
Compensation
Based on education and experience, the position has a hiring range of $17.13/hour to $17.44/hour plus excellent benefits.
