Welcome Weekend Testimonials

Hear from Students

Welcome Weekend was a blast, as it was a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and get connected in the NU community. I am glad I could get settled on campus and experience a variety of events before I started my first year of college. It is so much fun to meet new people while also providing a practical way to adjust to life at NU.

—Brenna Tuengel, Incoming Year 2024

It is such an important event for any new college student to attend because it’s the first sense of community you feel in college. Welcome Weekend supplies new students with an opportunity to make connections and not feel alone in their transition to college. That’s something I am so thankful to have been a part of.

—Miciah Hagan, Incoming Year 2023

It was so fun seeing everyone that was on Jungle, (my dorm floor). Finding out what Jungle is all about, and building new connections with the girls on my floor. Now I have the honor to carry that same spirit, and I am beyond excited. Exploring Kirkland was so fun, trying all the food samples from macaroons to smoothies to chicken. I got to taste new things and got to know more about why Kirkland is so special. The lake jump was so fun as well and a great memory I get to hold on to.

—Daytona Gravlin, Incoming Year 2024

I loved exploring Kirkland. It was great to see all the fun things we could do close to campus; we had a lot of unique pit stops, and it was so fun to watch everyone go lake jumping.

—Brenna Tuengel, Incoming Year 2024

Don't be afraid! Everyone is in the same shoes you are, and the leaders have been too.  Welcome Weekend is all about getting out of your comfort zone and having fun before classes start. Take the opportunity while you have it.

—Daytona Gravlin, Incoming Year 2024

Just invest in yourself at every turn and reap the benefits! Northwest is an incredible place. Go to events, join a club, play intramurals. Northwest is what you make it, so go out and do as much as you can!

—Miciah Hagan, Incoming Year 2023

As a transfer student from community college, Welcome Weekend was such a great experience! I wasn't sure what to expect coming in, but the events made it so easy to connect with other students and feel like part of the community right away. I really appreciated how welcoming and community-oriented the campus felt. The academic advisors were also super helpful in making sure my credits transferred smoothly and that I was on the right track with my classes. Overall, Welcome Weekend helped me feel like I belonged—right alongside all the other new students.

—Abigail Miller, Incoming Year 2023
