Honors Program Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! The program is specifically designed to be accessible for any and every major at Northwest University.
The short answer is that while you can apply to have a limited number of your previously earned credits count towards the honors program, we highly encourage you to take the honors classes here at Northwest. This is both because of the importance of the cohort model of education, and because the high educational standards of our honors classes are difficult to replicate in other settings.
This is a possibility, but the requirements stay the same. In other words, if you took a non-honors version of an honors course in your first year, you would need to retake it as an honors course.
In most cases, no. However, note that you only have to take seven of the eight honors courses. If you are in a major who has a specific science prerequisite, we highly recommend that you take that course and opt out of the honors science course. If you do not have a specific science requirement, however (as is the case for most Bachelor of Arts degrees), definitely take the honors science course.
You have three options. The first option is to take ENGL 1013: Composition I in the same semester as ENGL 1023: Rhetoric & Research Writing (a.k.a. Composition II). The second option is to take Composition I in the Spring semester. Both of these options are perfectly valid, given the different focuses of the Composition courses. The third option is to apply for a sub waiver for Composition I. This option is suitable if you can make a compelling case to the English Department and University of why you do not need to take Composition I.
