Staying the Course: Business Leaders

Thanks to all of you who have watched our recent series of videos about our core commitments at Northwest University. I especially appreciate the comments many of you have made in response. Today, the video focuses on our commitment to business education. Like any university, we want our business majors to leave school with a strong grasp of business principles in categories like marketing, management, finance, accounting, sales, human resources management, and others. But as a Christian university, we want to communicate to our graduates the spiritual meaning of their work as business professionals. To that end, we recently rolled out our Ready to Work Initiative and its centerpiece course on the biblical theology of work.

In recent years, a lot has been said in missionary circles about “business as mission.” For us, business is mission. God’s missional purposes for a flourishing humanity cannot prosper without the business efforts of men and women. Humans creating and exchanging wealth is God’s answer to the problem of poverty and the fulfillment of material need. The video goes into a little bit more detail. I hope you enjoy it.

With the stock market falling and inflation rising and recession threatening, it’s a good thing for all of us to think about the purpose of business and commit ourselves to robust participation in the economy. At Northwest, we think about it all the time, as part of our worship of the One who created it all.
