Become a Preceptor

Why Precept?

  • Become an integral part of the training of young healthcare providers from a local university based out of Kirkland, WA
  • Help provide a pipeline of potential providers for your organization, helping to combat healthcare shortages
  • Earn CME Credit (For PAs, maximum of 20 AAPA category 1 CME credits during any single calendar year for precepting).
  • Gain teaching experience in preparation for future academic roles
  • Access Physician Assistant Library Resources at Northwest University (Includes CINAHL with full text, Clinical Key Student, DailyMed, McGraw Access Medicine, MEDLINE, Merck Manual: Professional Version, Nursing and Allied Health Premium, PubMed, SAGE Open Medicine, Trip)
  • Attend Northwest University’s symphony orchestra and/or Choralons Christmas concert
  • Receive discounted tickets to Northwest University’s theater production
  • Be invited to Annual Preceptor Appreciation Event and a tour of our new facilities in Kirkland

Clinical Rotations

  • Internal Medicine
  • Family Medicine
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Pediatrics
  • Women’s Health
  • Behavioral Health
  • Elective

PA Student Preparation Prior to Clinical Rotations

  • One year of health care experience (prior to admission).
  • Pre-PA school undergraduate course requirements (prior to admission).
  • Medical terminology course (prior to didactic phase).
  • 21 courses in didactic phase of PA program (physiology, pharmacology, patient care skills, anatomy, pharmacology, evidence-based research and medicine, faith integration, and more).
  • Clinical skills labs (including cadaveric dissection and “anatomage” table).

Preceptorship Site / Preceptor

  • Should be willing to incorporate PA student into team for 5-week rotation / teach informally.
  • Should expect PA student to follow preceptor’s clinical schedule (days, evenings, on-call, weekends).
  • Completes mid-rotation and end of rotation evaluations.
